Traffic police have started sending court summons to citizens who have not paid pending digital challans, including those who obtained a new CNIC or driving licence instead of clearing their fines.
According to media reports, Traffic police officials said a digital challan fine doubles if it is not paid within 10 days. After that period, the challan is transferred to the relevant court.
Officials said many citizens had avoided approaching the courts to retrieve their confiscated documents because of the doubled fines. In response, police will now send court summons to all those who fail to pay within the 10-day deadline.
According to police, the number of pending digital challans and confiscated documents has reached nearly 800,000.
The summons will direct citizens to pay their challans and collect their confiscated documents. Those who fail to pay even after receiving a summons will face stricter legal action, officials said.
