The Sindh Education Department has imposed a strict ban on CNG and LPG cylinders in school vans, warning that private schools failing to comply will face action.
Acting on directives from the provincial education minister, the department issued a notification to private schools outlining new safety measures for student transport. The notification also prohibits the unsafe supply of petrol to vehicle engines through bottles and cans, a practice it described as hazardous.
Under the new rules, school vans are barred from carrying more students than their approved seating capacity. Students are also not allowed to travel standing on the footboards.
The notification makes a fitness certificate issued by the Sindh government mandatory for all school transport. A copy of the certificate must be kept inside the vehicle at all times.
School administrations found violating the safety instructions will face action, the notification said. Private educational institutions have been directed to ensure strict implementation of all safety regulations, with the department stating that no compromise will be made on the safety of students.
