Pakistan’s private airline, Airblue, has abruptly scaled back its operations. Consequently, the company laid off more than 300 employees overnight. The sudden Airblue layoffs have sent shockwaves through the local aviation sector, affecting personnel across the entire corporate hierarchy.
The termination emails reached workers across multiple critical departments. Specifically, the layoffs deeply impacted the engineering department, where 69 engineering staff members of Airblue lost their jobs. Furthermore, the passenger handling and airside operations teams face significant cuts.
The airline did not spare its top-tier staff, either. Around 40 pilots and several director-level executives are also among those dismissed during this overnight restructuring.
Staff members received their unexpected termination notices directly via email. Following the digital announcement, management instructed the dismissed personnel to immediately return their official service cards. Moreover, they must hand over their airport entry passes directly to Human Resources.
Despite the abrupt terminations, the company is managing financial obligations. The airline’s HR department has received strict instructions to settle all outstanding financial dues for the terminated personnel.
The company cited a forced reassessment of its operations as the primary driver behind this drastic decision. Regional uncertainty played a massive role in this sudden shift. Additionally, broader challenges within the wider aviation industry forced the airline to restructure. Therefore, the carrier decided to drastically reduce its workforce to navigate these ongoing hurdles.
