Pakistan has been struggling hard to keep up with the ongoing pace of the modern world of technology. While the govt has not been so effective in providing a better digital ecosystem and a fair internet landscape, however, this new step by govt’s power division sets a new milestone for the convenience of the public. A mobile app has been launched by the government to inform users about real-time electricity billing and supply situation of any public sector distribution company.
The Android-based app called ”Roshan Pakistan” will ensure the transparency in the power system and will enable public to get real-time access to the energy sector’s information. The app will inform electricity consumers about the usage, supply, billing. The app will enable users to is able to calculate possible electricity bills online. The app will work without any human interference.
While addressing at the launch event of mobile app recently, Federal Minister for Power Division, Ahmed Khan Leghari said that the earlier period of 4 years of the government’s tenure was focussed upon dealing with power shortages and building electricity generation capacity. While in the current year, govt has moved its preferences towards the betterment of consumers related services, with providing awareness and transparency.
Roshan Pakistan app is available in two versions i.e. English and Urdu. Tha app features various option for the conveyance of users. It has four main features, which includes the load-shedding schedule, billing information, net metering and bill calculator. Users can easily view planned load shedding schedule and actual load shedding. The app will allow users to avail the facility of Net-Metering at their respective feeder by just entering Reference No. The app can be installed from the Google Play Store via this link.
According to the Minister for Power division Mr. Leghari,
“Making this information public is for making ourselves accountable to the public. From now on, each power feeder of Discos will be on the radar of the public. We have brought these details to the palm of a consumer.”
Govt’s effort in taking such initiatives is admirable, yet the actual problem faced by the power sector in Pakistan is the shortage of electricity, which still persists.
