A lawyer in Lahore has filed a 2.5 million rupees lawsuit against Careem for incompetence and bad service. Said lawyer claims that Careem’s bad service caused him monetary loss and damaged his reputation among lawyers’ community.
According to Daily Pakistan, Mian Kashif Ashfaq, who is a Supreme court lawyer, has filed a petition in the Lahore District Consumer court stating that he booked a ride via Careem’s smartphone app on three different occasions: May 16, August 15 and August 23. However, the company’s chauffeur failed to reach in time on all these occasions. The company again repeated the “negligence” on September 19, when the petitioner even failed to attend a scheduled meeting with a client due to poor customer service of Careem. When he complained to transportation network’s Lahore office the operator canceled his rides without his due permission.
After this treatment by Careem, he served them with a legal notice seeking compensation for damages caused due to those cancelled rides. Neither Careem, nor their legal counsel responded to the legal notice which forced Mian Kashif Ashfaq to file a case against them in local consumer court under the Punjab Consumer Protection Act 2005.
His complaint to the Consumer court reads:
“Petitioner was shocked by the ineptness and delinquency of the said representative of Careem….who on his own sweet will canceled the ride of the petitioner without reckoning anything and charged the petitioner with Rs 150 cancellation fee.”
Mian Kashif Ashfaq is demanding Rs2,520,000 as a payment of all the damages caused due to those canceled rides. Treatment of customers by companies by Uber and Careem has been a worrisome matter in the past too; some users have even reported abuse by drivers of these services too. This newest addition to the growing list of unhappy customers is expected to further discourage customers from using such services.
