Adobe Launches Photoshop App for iPhone, Bringing Powerful Editing Tools to Mobile

Adobe has officially launched a mobile version of its renowned Photoshop software for iPhone users, marking a significant step in making professional-grade photo editing accessible on the go. The company has also confirmed plans to release an Android version later this year.

The Photoshop iPhone app provides users with access to a variety of free and paid editing tools, including AI-powered tools that maintain essential core functions such as layering and masking.  The application facilitates the incorporation of users’ work across various devices by integrating with Photoshop on the web.

Free and Paid Features

The basic functions of Photoshop are accessible to all users who employ the free version of the platform, and it also supports the functionality of selections, layers, and masks.  All users can utilise the “Generative Fill” and “Generative Expand” tools, as well as the “Spot Healing Brush” and “Tap Select” tool, through Adobe’s AI-powered capabilities.  Users have the ability to access a variety of Adobe applications, including Adobe Express, Adobe Fresco, and Adobe Lightroom, as well as free Adobe Stock assets.

By subscribing to Adobe for $7.99 per month, users can gain access to more advanced features. In the event that paid users want to use more advanced features, the mobile app offers convenient access to the web version of Photoshop. The Firefly AI tools “Generate Similar” and “Reference Image” are among the additional features that are accessible through subscription, in addition to over 20,000 typefaces.  The subscription provides premium capabilities, such as the “Magic Wand” tool and the “Object Select,” as well as retouching features that utilise the “Clone Stamp” and “Content-Aware Fill.”

By launching Photoshop for iPhone, Adobe aims to attract a younger audience and casual creatives who primarily use their phones for design and photo editing. “We spent a lot of time talking to creatives and creators, especially the new generation of creators who are very comfortable with phones, and tried to understand their unique use cases on mobile devices,” said Shambhavi Kadam, senior director of product management at Adobe Photoshop.

Users who tested the app ahead of its release deployed it for digital artwork together with mood boards as well as fashion lookbooks along with podcast covers and album art and video thumbnails and completed multiple memes. The mobile expansion makes Adobe aim to challenge dominant picture editing software including Snapseed Picsart and Canva.

Photoshop for iPhone is available for download worldwide starting today via the Apple App Store.
