Apple apologizes for listening to Siri recordings

Days after the disclosure of biggest controversy in Apple’s history, the American tech giant has now apologized for listening to the user conversation with Siri without their consent.

According to a recent report, Apple’s digital-assistance Siri shared the information with hired contractors for “Grading Program”, so they can ensure the good quality experience to the users. A few days ago Apple terminated the operation after The Guardian reported on contractors listening to private conversation related to the business deals, medical information, and drug deals.

Apple has introduced new rules, in which the company would only be listening to the conversation of those users who choose to take part in “Siri grading” program to improve the voice recognition quality. It would also delete the conversations by default after using them for the program.

In a recent statement issued by Apple, the company’s spokesperson said;

“We realize we haven’t been fully living up to our high ideals, and for that we apologies. We’ve decided to make some changes to Siri, our goal with Siri, the pioneering intelligent assistant, is to provide the best experience for our customers while vigilantly protecting their privacy.”

The computer-generated transcript is still going to be used as that has improved the Siri responding to the users request very effectively. New rules only allow Apple employees to listen to such recording as the hired contractor can be compromised and the data could be misused.

The statement issued by Apple also clarified that less than 0.2 percent of audio recordings were reviewed in the program.

Apple vows to provide best user experience to its customers, therefore they left to the user if they voluntarily participate in the program to help the company to keep providing them the best virtual voice-assistance through “Siri”.

The American tech giant has been in hot water from last few months, first the jailbreak vulnerability in new iOS 12.4 update and now this “Siri Grading” controversy. These scenarios could only hurt the credibility of Apple being the world’s most “trustworthy” smartphone company.
