A recent report has claimed that Apple is going to drop the Lightning ports in favor of the USB Type-C connectors on its newer iPhones including the iPhone 8.
Apple is going to drop the iPhone’s signature lightning port for charging, and is going to replace it with industry standard USB Type-C port. Apple has been using its signature lightning ports for charging the iPhones since it introduced it with iPhone 5. USB Type-C on the other hand is being used extensively in the mobile industry. Apple itself also even introduced it in its MacBook series.
“USB-C port for the power cord and other peripheral devices instead of the company’s original Lightning connector”, read the report.
Alternatively, Apple might also go on and replace USB-A plug on the end of the iPhone power cable with USB Type-C. This would enable the users to charge their iPhones from the newer Macbooks as well.
The report from the Wall Street Journal further went on and affirmed many of the already circulating rumors. There would be atleast three iPhones launching this year and atleast one of these smartphones would be going to have an OLED display.
The report also confirmed that Apple would most probably be using curved displays on its 10th anniversary special iPhone. Samsung is already making curved displays for Apple. We have also been hearing that there won’t be physical home-button atleast on one of the iPhones, the Wall Street Journal also claimed the same. Apple is going to replace the physical buttons with a touch-enabled ‘function’ area.
As far as the rumors are concerned, the next iPhone looks great. We will certainly have to wait till fall this year, to see that on its 10th anniversary, what Apple has in store for its fans.
