Apple was initially expected to launch the iPhone Air 2 next September alongside the iPhone Fold, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e were planned for release in spring 2027.
However, a new report claims that Apple has delayed the iPhone Air 2. The decision reportedly follows disappointing sales of the original iPhone Air, which prompted Apple to reduce supplier orders for the model.
Production changes are already underway. All Foxconn manufacturing for the iPhone Air is expected to end later this month, after Luxshare halted assembly in October. The move highlights Apple’s ongoing challenge in defining a fourth flagship model that appeals to buyers alongside the base iPhone, Pro, and Pro Max variants.
There is growing speculation that the upcoming iPhone Fold could take that position next year. Yet the iPhone Air has struggled to perform better than previous “fourth model” experiments, including the short-lived iPhone mini and iPhone Plus lines.
If Apple decides not to cancel the iPhone Air 2 entirely, it will likely debut in spring 2027 with the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e. Early rumors suggest it could feature a second rear camera, a long-awaited upgrade missing from the original iPhone Air.
