Ubisoft is finally giving fans exactly what they want. After months of waiting, the developer will add the highly requested New Game Plus mode to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced next week. The official Assassin’s Creed social media account confirmed this release recently using a popular ‘The Great Gatsby’ meme. However, the team did not provide specific details about what the new mode will actually include.

Ubisoft originally promised this feature back in July. Despite the long delay, the remake remains a massive commercial hit. In fact, it blew past 3.5 million copies sold in just its first 14 days. This success came even after extensive datamines and leaks spoiled the initial announcement earlier this year.
A Complete Engine Rebuild & Missing DLC
Consequently, fans have wondered why a major Black Flag Resynced post-launch priority, New Game Plus, took three months to arrive. The delay likely ties directly to the game’s massive structural overhaul. Game Director Richard Knight explained that the development team completely rebuilt the title in the Anvil Engine. Therefore, they could not salvage any code from the original 2013 release. The developers only used the original assets as reference models or temporary placeholders during the ground-up rebuild.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft continues to support the game with fresh content. Post-launch updates have already introduced completely new quests for players to tackle. Furthermore, eager fans recently discovered early-stage cut content hidden in the game files. This scrapped material notably features an older Edward Kenway back in England.
Additionally, the original Freedom Cry expansion is currently missing from this remake. This notable absence fuels heavy speculation that Ubisoft plans to release the beloved expansion as future downloadable content.
What Lies Ahead for the Franchise
Looking ahead, the broader franchise roadmap seems incredibly busy. Ubisoft plans to reveal the next mainline game, Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, in 2027. This upcoming title will take place in the Holy Roman Empire during the dark Witch Trials era. Moreover, Codename Hexe will pivot to a much darker tone while blending witchcraft with traditional action-RPG mechanics.
Finally, exciting rumors are actively circulating about past titles. Whispers in the community suggest that the very first Assassin’s Creed game is currently next in line for its own “Resynced” remake treatment.
