The Senate Standing Committee on Education recently tackled the ongoing Cambridge paper leaks scandal. During the meeting, top officials delivered stark warnings regarding the future of British examinations in Pakistan.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC) openly confirmed the crisis. According to the CEO, Cambridge papers leaked in both 2024 and 2025. However, the commission faces a massive tracking failure. The CEO admitted that the IBCC currently lacks any mechanism to determine exactly how many papers leaked. Meanwhile, the CEO highlighted that media reports point to a much higher volume of leaked papers than initially thought.
Consequently, the government is looking at other options. The IBCC CEO revealed that four alternative foreign boards are already operating inside Pakistan. Therefore, the authorities have delivered a clear ultimatum to Cambridge International Education (CIE). The CEO explicitly stated that if Cambridge fails to resolve this paper leak issue, Pakistan will switch to these alternative foreign examination boards.
In the meantime, the government is waiting for the external investigation results. The Secretary of Education stated that officials are currently awaiting a report from the National Crime Agency (NCA). After receiving this report, the ministry will make a final decision regarding formal legal action against Cambridge. Furthermore, the Senate Committee has established a dedicated sub-committee. This new body consists of IBCC officials, and the Cambridge paper leaks affected students to address the issue directly.
