Cyberpunk 2 Release Window Revealed as CP2077 Hits 35M Sales

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has officially shed light on the future of the Cyberpunk franchise. In a recent financial update, the studio shared massive sales figures for Cyberpunk 2077 and provided a realistic timeline for its highly anticipated sequel, currently known as Cyberpunk 2.

Cyberpunk 2077 Breaks Records

First, the numbers are in. Cyberpunk 2077 has surpassed an impressive 35 million copies sold. Despite a rocky launch back in 2020, the action RPG has made a historic comeback. It is now CDPR’s primary source of revenue.

This financial success is crucial. It provides the stability the studio needs to fuel its next ambitious projects. While The Witcher 4 remains the top priority, work on the next dark future adventure is steadily ramping up.

Cyberpunk 2: A Long Road to 2030

Fans will need patience. According to CD Projekt co-CEO Michał Nowakowski, the next Cyberpunk game likely won’t launch until at least 2030.

However, progress is happening. The sequel, formerly codenamed “Project Orion”, has officially entered pre-production. As of October 2025, the development team has grown. Approximately 135 developers are now assigned to the project, a significant jump from the 116 reported just months ago.

New Cities & Multiplayer Hints

CDPR is aiming high for the sequel. The game will run on Unreal Engine 5, likely solving previous technical headaches. Franchise creator Mike Pondsmith hinted at a major expansion in the setting. The sequel will reportedly introduce a second major city. Pondsmith describes this new locale as having a “Chicago gone wrong” vibe. Expect a grittier, more dystopian atmosphere compared to the “neon noir” of Night City.

Furthermore, recent job listings suggest exciting gameplay changes. CDPR is looking to create the most reactive crowd system in gaming history. They are also focusing on diverse playstyles and memorable combat. Perhaps most notably, listings have pointed to potential online or multiplayer elements, a feature originally scrapped from the first game.

While the wait is long, the vision for Cyberpunk 2 is clear. The studio is building a reactive, dual-city world on a powerful new engine. We will keep you updated as development continues.
