EatOye.pk has made big decisions in the last few weeks. First, we came to know that foodpanda has acquired EatOye – Pakistan’s pioneering online food ordering website. Then, in recent news, we were told that EatOye has acquired another food ordering service, Urbanite.pk. The acquisition details were not disclosed in both cases.
Foodpanda acquisition came as a surprise for us especially after what EatOye told TJ in an interview last year. They were very vocal about the fact that EatOye does not get along with foodpanda stating,
“If you are going to keep on copying all our innovations and campaigns, we just can’t sit and see others do that. As an example, we started off with the hyper discounts on our website, next week, we see our idea has been copied. Same was the case with the UAN number.”
Urbanite.pk’s founder and CEO, Ozair Bokhari shared his views about the acquisition:
“It has been a pleasure to have served Urbanite customers and moreover to witness the industry grow in just 3 years- from Urbanite being the sole operator to this dynamic competitive market today. I am convinced that this development will prove beneficial for urbanite’s customers and I wish EatOye all the best.”
Urbanite.pk’s domain name and customers have been acquired by EatOye with the transaction. Urbanite customers will now have access to larger restaurant listings with the ability to order food on the go with new mobile apps and they can pay online using credit cards.
Online Food ordering market in Pakistan is estimated to be worth $15 million of annual online orders. In such case, EatOye has not only became a bigger part of the market but no doubt have increased their own net worth.
