Here’s how you can participate in Facebook’s Developer Circles Community Challenge

Written by Maryam Dodhy ·  1 min read >

Facebook has a longstanding tradition of promoting young developers. This time they are back with their Developer Circles Community Challenge.

The competition was opened to the public on September 5th via an official blog post. The main aim of the Developer Circles Community Challenge is to bring local developers together so that they can solve their community’s most pressing problems. The trick to participating in the challenge is to get involved in your nearest Facebook Developer Circle. These circles have been opened up by Facebook all over the world and luckily Pakistan has two of them – in Lahore and Islamabad. By joining one of these circles you’ll have to find a team mate with whom you can start working on solving a problem. If your city doesn’t have a Developer Circle, you can apply to be its Lead.

Main Requirements

The main requirement from developers participating in this challenge is that they have to use at least one Facebook product in it. The product can be a platform like Messenger or any of its developments tools like React or Fresco. After you’ve selected which Facebook product you’re going to use, you’ll also have to ensure that the solution you are building fits should either:

  1. Help developers code and improve their skills
  2. Or, make their work easier or more productive
  3. Or, a product that helps developers connect

Eligibility

The competition is open to individuals who are have reached the “age of majority”. For Pakistani citizens that age is 18 years. Properly registered and valid organizations employing less than 50 employees can also participate.

Submission Process

You will be judged on the basis of three submissions:

  1. Upload a proper demo video of your application on YouTube, Vimeo or other video-sharing platforms where they can be viewed publicly.
  2. Images from the working prototype you have developed that properly depict its functionality.
  3. Finally, make your solution live in the form of a website or a demo site so that it can be checked by judges remotely. You can find help on how to do that here.

Dates To Remember

Submissions: September 5th, 2017 9:00 AM EDT – November 20th, 2017 5.00 PM EST
Judging: November 29th, 2017 9.00 AM EST – December 11th, 2017 5.00 PM EST

Winners will be announced on December 18th, 2017.
