A couple of months ago, Google launched a new app for desktop computers and it named it “Backup and Sync”.

Today, Google has announced that it will be shutting down its old Google Drive app in March 2018. Google will stop supporting the Windows and Mac versions of Google Drive app on December 11th, 2017 and will shut it down in March.

You’ll need to update your desktop app to Backup and Sync before it stops working. If you are still running the old app, you’ll start seeing a message that the app is “going away,”. Just to be clear, Google Drive service is not shutting down, it’s only the app that is going away. If you are not an app user you can always access the Google Drive online.

The new app works just like the old one and it also provides some amazing new features. The new app is the combination of Google Drive and Google Photos apps. You can backup any folder on Google Drive with the new app easily.

“Just choose the folders you want to back up, and we’ll take care of the rest,” Google said about the new app in a blog post earlier.

The new app will also make all of your photos and videos a part of Google Photos and as you may now, Google Photos gives you unlimited storage for your photos and videos so they won’t eat up your storage.
