We recently saw that PTA has delayed the date of the implementation of Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) on the Senate’s orders and now the Government is taking a step further to facilitate the citizens by soon launching a web portal where you can register and pay taxes of the phone you bought from a foreign country. For this purpose, the system will be ready for sandbox testing around 25th January.

According to ProPakistani, the functions of the system are as follows:

  • International Travellers will be able to sign in on the platform and submit their device for registration.
  • The system will request an IMEI for verification.
  • The system will check whether the IMEI is unique and not in the stolen devices database.
  • After those checks above have passed, the IMEI will be whitelisted and registered to your name.

In case you are bringing a phone and want to pay the customs tax, the system will generate a Payment Slip Identity (PSID) code which will have the duties and taxes whereas the passengers will be able to pay using popular banks, ATMs or mobile wallets as well as directly through the web portal.

Passengers can bring their phone from a foreign country without having to deal with customs officials but they have to get their phone registered within fifteen days of arrival. In case of more than one phone, the taxes have to be paid first before the phone can be registered.
