The federal government has set an ambitious target of creating 2 million new jobs during the fiscal year 2026-27 as part of its strategy to boost economic growth, strengthen labor markets, and expand employment opportunities across key sectors.
According to official planning documents, the services sector is expected to generate the largest share of new employment, contributing approximately 1.1 million jobs during the next fiscal year. The industrial sector is projected to create around 500,000 jobs, while the agriculture sector is expected to add another 400,000 employment opportunities.
The government’s latest employment target follows its claim that nearly 1.8 million jobs were created during the current fiscal year ending June 30, 2026.
Officials believe that increased employment opportunities will support inclusive and sustainable economic growth by improving household incomes, boosting consumer spending, and strengthening overall economic activity.
The planning documents highlight that federal and provincial employment-generation initiatives will continue to focus on entrepreneurship, vocational training, technical skills development, and improved job-matching systems designed to connect workers with suitable employment opportunities.
As Pakistan’s largest economic contributor, the services sector is expected to remain the primary driver of job creation. Meanwhile, industrial expansion and agricultural growth are also anticipated to play a significant role in supporting employment and economic development during FY2026-27.
