Huawei Laptop returns to Microsoft’s online store

Huawei’s MateBook X returns to Microsoft’s online store after being mysteriously taken down last month. It was speculated that the move came from Microsoft amidst the ongoing crackdown on Huawei products in the US market.

Following orders from the Trump administration, every company in the US was ordered to dissolve their relationship with Huawei. A lot of companies came forward and released their public statements, however, Microsoft remained silent on this issue and even after removing Huawei’s MateBook X from its online store, the company chose to remain silent, once again.

Twitter user, WalkingCat highlighted that the Huawei laptops are back on the Microsoft store and after checking the Microsoft store, we’ve confirmed that the MateBook 13, the MateBook, and the MateBook X Pro have in fact returned. Out of the three models, MateBookX Pro is currently listed as “Out of Stock” on the store. After last month’s removal of these devices, it was speculated that Huawei might also lose its Windows license soon since Intel and ARM had already terminated their contracts with the Huawei which practically crippled Huawei from manufacturing any Laptops.

Microsoft in a statement told The Verge that the current sanctions on Huawei do not extend to devices that are currently in stock at a retailer’s website, hence the listing back of Huawei laptops.

We have been evaluating, and will continue to respond to, the many businesses, technical and regulatory complexities stemming from the recent addition of Huawei to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export Administration Regulations Entity List. As a result, we are resuming the sale of existing inventory of Huawei devices at Microsoft Store.

It should be noted that Huawei earlier postponed the launch of a new Windows laptop. The statement by Microsoft does confirm that Microsoft may or may not support Huawei windows machines in the future, as the sole purpose of allowing the MateBook series on its store is to sell out the Huawei products inventory.
