Huawei Mate 10 series now receiving Face Unlock update

Since the launch of iPhone X, its face unlocking feature has been criticised a lot. Android has had this feature for quite some time, but it is not as secure as Apple’s Face ID. And now Huawei Mate 10 series is going to get this update. Huawei Mate 10 lite received Face Unlock and AR Lens update, last month. Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are going to get an update which will enable Face Unlock and ‘Smart Lock Screen Notifications’ on the smartphones.

Facial authentication has been a highly requested feature nowadays and has made it to a lot of smartphones in the recent months. All the flagships of the leading companies have this feature now, Huawei’s Mate series Face Unlock feature will be coming alongside a big update that will bring the device up to EMUI version 8.0.0.128SP2.

iPhone X’s Face ID feature uses 3D depth-sensing tech to unlock the smartphone. Android uses 2D imaging, that too in the software department which isn’t as accurate as the iPhone X, as Apple uses a specialized hardware, which gets the job done better compared to Android.

Face Unlock only works when the screen of the smartphone is awake, though Huawei has added a raise to wake feature as well. With this feature whenever the device is raised up, it will instantly display the lock screen. By this feature, it will start scanning the person instantly when he/she looks at the lock screen.

Although sensitive data could be seen on the lock screen, hence they have added the option to set notifications on the lock screen to a hidden mode. That way we can see which applications have notifications for you, but it won’t show the contents of the notification unless you unlock it.

It must be noted that some Mate 10 series devices have already received the update while some will get it in coming days. Did you get the update on your Mate 10 or Mate 10 Pro? Do let us know in the comments section.
