Instagram users are complaining about a weird hack that locking them out of their accounts and replaces their login email with a Russian email address.

A social media platform which has over 1 billion users is currently experiencing a weird hack that is making people angry. Users are reporting that they cannot access their accounts and that their profile pictures have been changed to an animated film still or in extreme bizarre cases their accounts have been deleted. The impacted users took to Twitter complaining that Instagram is not providing any real help in this regard.

According to Mashable, around 899 accounts have tweeted against the hack on Twitter.

Multiple users complained that Instagram is not doing enough to help them. Because their login credentials have changed and it is difficult for the users to recover their accounts.

In its blog, Instagram wrote: “We are aware that some people are having difficulty accessing their Instagram accounts.” The company pointed users to its guidance on hacked accounts and said people should cancel any suspicious third-party apps that might have access to their accounts.

A spokeswoman added in a statement that the company tries to provide a safe environment for users. She said,

“When we become aware of an account that has been compromised, we shut off access to the account and the people who have been affected are put through a remediation process so they can reset their password and take other necessary steps to secure their account.”
