Google has updated Gemini with new tools that let users preview and edit files directly inside the app. The update covers documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code, and other file formats.
Google first introduced file generation in Gemini in April. The feature allowed users to create Google Docs, Sheets, PDFs, and Markdown files. However, editing those files required downloading or exporting them first.
That limitation has now been addressed. Users can open generated files in Gemini and make changes without leaving the app. They can also expand files to full screen and edit their content directly. Gemini also lets users highlight specific text and ask questions about it. Users can request changes to text or visuals, refine content, or ask follow-up questions about the file.

However, support varies across platforms. PDF preview and editing are available on both the web and mobile apps. Other formats, including Google Docs, Sheets, slide decks, Markdown, TXT, and code files, are currently limited to the web version.
Google says the new features are rolling out to all Gemini users starting today. They are also available in every language supported by the app.
