Islamabad’s new rule mandating M-Tags for all vehicles entering the capital has created long queues across the city, as authorities hint at a possible fee increase amid rising demand. The strict enforcement began this week, marking one of the city’s biggest steps toward a fully monitored entry system.
The decision comes as part of Islamabad’s broader plan to tighten security and streamline traffic at all entry points. Motorcycles remain under review, but every other vehicle must now display an active M-Tag before entering the federal capital. According to officials, seven service points have been activated to manage the heavy rush of citizens trying to get registered.
Speaking about the move, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon said the upgraded tagging system would help monitor incoming traffic more efficiently and prevent unauthorized entry.
“Every measure is being taken to ensure security and convenience for residents,” he stated.
Currently, the M-Tag costs Rs250, but authorities have indicated the fee may rise by Rs50 in the coming days. Citizens have been advised to complete tagging at the earliest, as vehicles without an M-Tag will not be allowed to enter Islamabad.
