Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has drafted the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transport Policy 2026, marking the province’s first comprehensive transport policy. The policy will be formally implemented after approval by the provincial cabinet.
A consultative session on the draft policy was held on Friday, bringing together officials and representatives from various government departments and transport institutions. The session was attended by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Samiullah Khan, Secretary Transport Muhammad Zubair, Managing Director of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority Iftikhar Ahmad, CEO of TransPeshawar Dr. Murtaza Bukhari, and other senior officials.
During the meeting, stakeholders presented suggestions and recommendations on the proposed policy. Lead consultant Dr. Akhtar Ali Shah also delivered a detailed presentation covering the policy’s key features, objectives, and major components.
Samiullah Khan described the drafting of the policy as a significant achievement for the province. He said the government aims to improve the transport sector through effective projects while incorporating feedback from the public and relevant stakeholders.
The policy is expected to provide a comprehensive framework for the development and improvement of transportation services across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Its implementation will begin once it receives approval from the provincial cabinet.
