Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi announced CNG stations will resume operations Thursday following agreement ensuring uninterrupted gas supply allocation.
Governor Kundi confirmed uninterrupted gas supply will be provided daily from 6am to 6pm after agreement allocating 35 MMCFD gas specifically for provincial CNG sector.
He emphasised federal and provincial governments are jointly addressing public issues, stressing matters concerning KP should remain above political confrontation.
Kundi spoke at joint press conference alongside Opposition Leader Dr Ibadullah and provincial finance adviser Muzammil Aslam, highlighting unity among stakeholders despite political differences.
He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for taking notice of provincial gas concerns, adding expectation wheat supply issue would also be resolved soon.
Muzammil Aslam thanked PM and petroleum minister for swift response, stressing dialogue remains best mechanism for resolving disputes rather than confrontation between political stakeholders.
Aslam stated Article 151 of Constitution guarantees free transmission, adding provinces producing gas should receive priority supply under constitutional provisions ensuring equitable distribution.
He emphasised Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s potential to become major oil and gas hub, calling for greater industrial development and attention to merged districts in upcoming provincial budget.
Governor Kundi reiterated commitment to strong federation, promising collaborative efforts between federal and provincial governments whenever issues arise.
Letter to the prime minister
Earlier this week, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to resolve the ongoing CNG crisis that gripped the province since April 2026.
CM Afridi warned in his letter that continued gas curtailment was creating conditions for widespread public agitation and posed a serious threat to law and order across KP.
CM Afridi pointed out that KP produces approximately 494 million cubic feet of natural gas per day while its average daily consumption stands at only around 120 million cubic feet.
He stated that the CNG sector in KP requires approximately 36 to 40 million cubic feet of gas per day, which has instead been redirected to the fertiliser sector by federal authorities.
The CM argued that given the substantial gas surplus of the province, there was no justification for cutting off supply to the transport sector, which depends heavily on CNG.
