Lahore Transport Department has launched special women-only buses on the Metro Bus Service to provide safer travel for female commuters.
The Transport and Mass Transit Department said five special buses have been allocated for women on the Metro Bus Service. Five Speedo buses have been made operational on the Metro track on a temporary basis to facilitate women passengers.
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said the additional buses were introduced to protect women from harassment during rush hours and to ensure a safe travel experience.
He said the Speedo buses were added to the Metro fleet on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, which were implemented without delay.
Bilal Akbar Khan added that new Metro buses will be purchased soon to permanently replace the Speedo buses on the women-designated route. He said safe travel for women is a top priority on the Chief Ministers agenda, and further measures will be taken to achieve this goal.
