Lahore Outshines New York, London in Global Safety Rankings

Lahore has emerged as one of the safest major cities in the world, surpassing iconic metropolises like New York, London, and Paris in Numbeo’s 2025 Crime and Safety Index.
Lahore is ranked 37th globally in terms of low crime and 63rd on the safety scale. It now outpaces 249 cities worldwide — a remarkable leap for a South Asian urban center.
According to Numbeo data, Lahore’s Crime Index stands at 36.86, with a Safety Index of 63.14. These figures are significantly better than New York’s 50.84 and London’s comparable statistics.
The shift reflects a 50% decline in reported crimes from April 2023 to April 2024, with major drops in robbery, homicide, and vehicle theft.
Police officials attribute this transformation to a mix of data-driven strategies, political neutrality, merit-based leadership, and enhanced accountability. Over 400 officers were disciplined as part of reforms focused on restoring public trust and reducing urban crime.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran stated,
“Our goal is to make Lahore the safest city in the world.”
This citizen-driven recognition strengthens Lahore’s position as a rising hub for investment, tourism, and quality urban life. It also offers a benchmark of safety for other developing cities.
