LinkedIn announced new measures to limit reach of AI-generated content as platform combats rising tide of automated posts. LinkedIn Global Editorial VP Laura Lorenzetti shared latest measures app undertakes to combat rise of AI content and profiles in Wednesday post.
As LinkedIn puts it:
At a time when more people need help navigating work, it’s more important than ever that people can learn from real voices, authentic perspectives, and lived expertise…While AI can be a helpful tool for refining language, we’re seeing a rise in what many call “AI slop,” content that is low-effort, AI-generated content that may sound polished on the surface but lacks any real unique perspective or substance.
The professional networking platform implements restrictions on reach of content appearing to be generated by AI and lacking clear perspective. LinkedIn introduces new measures to detect and limit reach of automated and AI-generated comments which platform has been working to combat for some time according to official statements.
LinkedIn adds additional filters, allowing users to limit results to content from verified profiles only. These expanded measures can help curb presence of AI-generated junk crowding out insights from real human users.
The announcement exemplifies conflicts artificial intelligence tools create for social media platforms. LinkedIn rolled out 360Brew algorithm, 150-billion-parameter AI model to completely reshape how content appears on the platform. The AI system has proven itself to be smart enough to detect AI-generated content actively, deprioritizing template-style posts.
Organic reach dropped roughly 50% year-over-year according to industry reports with 95% of LinkedIn users reporting stagnant or declining reach. Views down 50%, engagement down 25%, and follower growth down 59% forcing creators adapt strategies. However creators posting authentic expert-level content actually see stronger results than before according to platform analytics.
LinkedIn’s algorithm now values meaningful interactions more than high engagement numbers. Platform rewards depth, expertise, and topic consistency over posting volume and engagement hacks marking significant shift in content distribution strategy prioritizing quality over quantity.
