Meta has announced a major expansion of its partnership with NVIDIA, agreeing to purchase millions of the company’s Blackwell and Rubin GPUs. The deal will bring NVIDIA’s Confidential Computing to WhatsApp, allowing AI-powered features in the messaging app while keeping user data private and secure.
With this technology, Meta can process information safely during computation, not just while data moves to servers. NVIDIA says it also helps protect the intellectual property of companies like Meta and third-party AI developers. This ensures that AI models and software remain secure, even as they run complex tasks.
In addition, Meta will be the first to deploy NVIDIA’s Grace CPUs on their own, separate from GPUs. These chips are designed for running inference and agent-based workloads efficiently. The company will also use NVIDIA’s Spectrum-X Ethernet switches to support its infrastructure.
Earlier this year, Meta revealed plans to spend up to $135 billion on AI in 2026. Analysts expect that a large part of this investment, likely in the tens of billions, will go to NVIDIA. Meta is also planning up to 30 new data centers worldwide by 2028, including 26 in the US, as part of a broader $600 billion technology commitment.
This deal highlights Meta’s push to strengthen its AI capabilities while keeping user privacy at the forefront. It also signals deeper integration with NVIDIA’s hardware and software, setting the stage for more advanced AI-powered services across Meta’s platforms.
