Microsoft is experimenting with a new way to cut through the chaos of overflowing photo libraries. A fresh update for Windows 11 Insiders on Copilot Plus PCs adds an AI-powered tool to the Photos app that automatically organizes images into dedicated folders.

The feature sorts out receipts, screenshots, ID documents, and handwritten notes without requiring any effort from the user. Microsoft explains that the system recognizes visual details in each image, even when the text is written in a language other than English. In practice, this means a Hungarian passport photo will still be grouped alongside other identity documents.

According to the announcement, after the app completes its work, the automatically generated folders appear under the Categories section in the navigation bar on the left. At launch, Photos supports only four categories: screenshots, receipts, identity documents, and notes.

Still, the addition hints at a broader future. If users were able to create custom categories, such as folders for pet photos or beach trips, the feature could become far more powerful. For now, though, Microsoft’s AI-driven sorting offers a meaningful step toward decluttering digital photo collections on Windows.
