Traveling on Pakistan’s motorways is about to change significantly. Authorities have officially announced the end of cash recharges for M-Tags. One Network, the management company behind M-Tag services, shared this update on Facebook. Commuters have until June 30, 2026, to adapt to this new policy. After this deadline, toll booth operators will no longer accept cash for account top-ups. Therefore, you must switch to digital methods immediately to ensure uninterrupted travel.
How to Recharge Your M-Tag Account Digitally
This sudden shift aims to promote digital transactions across the country. Additionally, it will streamline the entire payment system for motorway users. Authorities want to eliminate long queues and reduce travel inconvenience at toll plazas.
Consequently, motorists must transition to online and mobile-based recharge options ahead of the deadline. You can easily top up your M-Tag account through several digital platforms. For instance, you can use JazzCash, easypaisa, or various banking apps to add funds instantly. Switching to these digital methods now will guarantee a smooth journey later.
Old M-Tags Facing Permanent Block & Rising Fees
Apart from the recharge policy, authorities are also cracking down on outdated tags. Motorists must upgrade to the latest “One Country One Tag” system to continue using the motorways. The free replacement window for tags older than five years unfortunately expired on May 31, 2026.
As a result, a strict fee penalty system is now in place:
- 1-30 June, 2026: If you replace your outdated M-Tag right now, you must pay a replacement fee of Rs. 150.
- From July 1, 2026 & Onward: Authorities will completely block all old M-Tags. Furthermore, the replacement fee will double to Rs. 300.
