NADRA’s Digital ID Card: Easy Steps to Download It on Your Mobile

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has taken a significant step towards digital identification with the introduction of the country’s first digital ID card by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). This new feature marks a major milestone in the nation’s journey towards digital transformation and modernized identity management.
At an official event held at NADRA’s headquarters, the launch of the dematerialized ID card coincided with the organization’s Silver Jubilee celebrations. This occasion honored NADRA’s 25 years of service in integrating national databases and managing legal identities efficiently.
Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Mohsin Raza Naqvi, highlighted the importance of this development, emphasizing that it represents a major step towards digital identity. He stated that with the introduction of the dematerialized ID, traditional physical ID cards will no longer be a necessity for citizens.
This new digital identification feature is now available through the Pak ID Mobile Application, allowing users to store and access their ID cards directly on their smartphones. The move is expected to provide greater convenience and security, reducing the need for physical documents.
Furthermore, the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP), backed by the World Bank, will soon roll out advanced digital verification technologies. These will facilitate authentication processes across various services, further solidifying Pakistan’s transition into the digital age. A pilot phase of this fully digital identification system is set to begin on August 14, 2025.
During his address, the minister also highlighted NADRA’s extensive network, which ensures that both Pakistani citizens residing within the country and those living abroad have seamless access to identity services. He acknowledged NADRA’s pivotal role in enhancing national security and public administration through its collaborations with law enforcement agencies and governance bodies.
With this new feature now integrated into the Pak ID Mobile App, citizens can conveniently access their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) in digital form.
