Students from NED University have grabbed the ‘Breakthrough Award’ at the annual Formula Student 2017, held at Silverstone Circuit, UK.

The team, who calls themselves Fusion NED, comprised of Humza Yamin, Mujtaba Raza, Faisal Sattar, Abdul Samad, Arham Ali, Ali Abdullah, Rahul, Ahmad Shafiq, Ahmed Velmi, Immad Naveed, Hasan Ishaque, Saroosh Ahmed, Zeeshan, Moiz, and Rameez.

Formula Student is an annual event held by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. This year young engineers from 85 universities and 68 countries participated in Formula Student which is considered as the world’s largest student motorsport event for student engineers to design, build, and race single-seat racing cars.

Fusion NED had been working tirelessly for 2 years prior to participating in the event. They poured all their valuable time and money into designing the car for the competition and funded themselves entirely for participation at the Formula Student 2017.

However, it was not an easy sail entirely. The team had to face several setbacks. Despite the fact that the PIA very generously transported their car to the UK for free, it arrived two days late at the event location due to clearance delays at the taxation department. Nevertheless, the team was able to present to the judges how they were able to design and assemble the car in Pakistan.

The students received a lot of praise from judges present there and were also presented with a BMW F1 aerodynamic part as an appreciation memento from F1 specialist William Toet.

We wish these students from NED best of luck for their future ventures and also hope that this sets a good precedent for aspiring young engineers in Pakistan.
