The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has failed to issue generation licenses to hundreds of solar power consumers in the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) region for more than a month, despite the applications being formally forwarded for approval.
LESCO has submitted applications on behalf of numerous consumers seeking licenses for solar systems exceeding 25 kilowatts, including commercial and industrial users.
The regulator has not processed a significant number of these requests, leaving applicants without the licenses required to generate electricity.
Separately, applications for solar systems below 25 kilowatts remain stalled, even though NEPRA has amended its regulations governing such systems. No further movement has been made on these smaller-capacity requests.
Further action on the pending applications, including approval or rejection, will depend on NEPRA review and processing.
