A high-level meeting chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, reviewed key proposals for the upcoming auto policy, with a strong focus on strengthening local manufacturing and reducing vehicle prices in Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Industries and Production, Saif Anjum, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Hammad Mansoor, along with representatives of auto parts manufacturers and other relevant stakeholders.
During the session, participants held detailed discussions on policy measures aimed at expanding the localization of auto parts production. SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasized that promoting domestic manufacturing remains the central objective of the government’s new auto policy.
Secretary Industries and Production, Saif Anjum, briefed the meeting that the ministry is currently preparing a comprehensive list of auto parts that can be produced locally. He added that over the next five years, the government will provide adequate protection to locally manufactured auto components to ensure sustainable growth of the domestic industry.
Haroon Akhtar Khan reiterated that the forthcoming auto policy will be comprehensive and designed to strengthen the entire automotive value chain. He further stated that reducing vehicle prices through targeted policy interventions remains a top priority of the government.
The meeting also discussed proposals for introducing special incentives to promote electric vehicle (EV) parts manufacturing in Pakistan. The Secretary Industries noted that such incentives are under active consideration to attract investment in emerging automotive technologies.
Highlighting the importance of modernization, SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan urged auto parts manufacturers to transition towards electric vehicle technology in order to remain competitive in the evolving global automotive market.
He further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the new auto policy will significantly enhance local production capacity and boost exports. He assured stakeholders that the policy formulation process will be carried out through extensive consultation with all relevant industry participants.
At the conclusion of the meeting, SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan directed the Engineering Development Board (EDB), led by CEO Hammad Mansoor, to continue engaging with stakeholders to ensure an inclusive, practical, and effective policy framework.
