Google Maps has rolled out a new feature for iPhone users that automatically saves parking spots, making it easier than ever to locate your car. The update, available from December 2025, is set to simplify navigation and enhance user convenience.

The app now detects when an iPhone disconnects from a car’s Bluetooth, USB, or CarPlay connection and automatically drops a pin at the parking location. The pin remains visible for up to 48 hours and disappears as soon as you start driving again, keeping the map uncluttered. Users who have set a custom car icon in Google Maps will see that icon instead of the default “P” pin.

Senior Product Manager Rio Akasaka described the update on LinkedIn as a “personal parking maps velvet,” emphasizing its seamless and user friendly design.

Currently, this feature is exclusive to iOS users. Android users will need to continue manually saving parking spots until a future update extends the feature to their devices.

The automatic parking feature addresses a common user frustration losing track of parked cars and demonstrates Google Maps’ commitment to enhancing user experience with intelligent, automated solutions.
