During a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology, NTC officials briefed members on two major cyber attacks targeting Pakistan’s government institutions over the past weekend.
NTC officials confirmed that their cybersecurity teams successfully thwarted both attempts, preventing any data breaches.
The attacks targeted multiple government agencies. However, institutions hosted by NTC were fully protected, ensuring uninterrupted services. NTC currently provides cybersecurity support to 3,000 organisations across 100 cities nationwide.
Officials highlighted that these incidents underscore the importance of a robust cybersecurity framework. Plans are underway to establish a government-level cybersecurity authority to further safeguard critical systems and data.
NTC’s proactive measures and monitoring prevented significant damage, demonstrating the importance of continuous investment in national cybersecurity. Authorities confirmed that these attacks were foiled without any disruption to public or government services.
