Olympic Athletes can’t play Pokemon Go in Brazil so hackers attack CEO’s Twitter

Pokemon Go has become a worldwide phenomenon since its release despite being available in only 28 countries so far. That leaves a large population still deprived of this addictive game and Brazil happens to be one of the countries. Now as you all know, Brazil is hosting the Summer Olympics which means hundreds of athletes and their supporters have traveled to the host country only to find that they can’t play Pokemon Go anymore!

Pokemon Go is accessible to people who downloaded the game in their own country. But no Pokestops or Pokemons have sprouted in Brazil, rendering the game useless. It was supposed to be rolled out to Brazil in time for the Olympics but there has been no news on that as of yet.

While athletes have taken to Twitter to express their dismay at the situation, hackers have also stepped into the spotlight attacking Niantic CEO’s Twitter account. The group behind this is OurMine who have previously taken down social media accounts of several high profile people including Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Twitter’s Jack Dorsey and Google’s Sundar Pichai.

Yesterday, the group posted several tweets from John Hanke’s Twitter handle, claiming the hack was for Brazil. Most of the tweets were centered on Pokemon Go and we also got to know that even tech geeks use dumb password sometimes!

Most people did not appreciate the hack, saying it was a wrong way to get the message across. But like always, OurMine did not post any explicit content saying “we are just testing your security.” John Hanke’s account hasn’t been restored yet.
