OnePlus 3 and 3T now receiving Android Oreo and OxygenOS 5.0 update

Finally, the wait is over as OnePlus has announced the OxygenOS 5.0 and Android Oreo updates for its last year’s flagships OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, according to the OnePlus community forum. Recently, the company launched a beta version of Android Oreo for these devices which fixed some performance and battery-related bugs, for limited users.

The update has been made available for last year’s flagships, OnePlus 5 and 5T will follow in pursuit. The OxygenOS 5.0 marks a much quicker release than OxygenOS 4.0 of last year. Even though OnePlus is not known for its updates speed unlike Nokia renowned for superfast Android updates, however, it seems like the company has started to turn that around.

Well, if you own a OnePlus 3 or 3T, you should soon be able to download the Android 8.0 Oreo update. The OTA (over the air) update is pushed gradually, so only a small number of users will get it today, however, more will get it in the next few days.

The highlighted features and changes which you will get through this Oxygen OS 5.0 update are as follow:

System

  • Update to Android O (8.0)
  • Parallel Apps option added
  • Added Picture in Picture
  • Added Auto-fill
  • Smart text selection
  • New Quick Settings design
  • Updated security patch for September

Launcher

  • Notification dots included
  • New design for app folder
  • Now able to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus.

The update to Android O seems like a pretty big changelog, as the majority of the changes are cool and interesting to experience, except for the security patch. It looks outdated as we are already in November, and the security patch from September appears to be a poor choice.

The OTA update has started rolling out for the Canadian users of the OnePlus 3T initially, and other regions will follow in pursuit. OnePlus also requires you to give feedback on the bug reporting forum. Let us know in the comments what you think of OxygenOS 5.0.
