OnePlus 5 beats the iPhone 7 Plus in speed tests

The new smartphone from OnePlus becomes the first Android device to beat an iPhone since the start of the competition between the two platforms. The two smartphones are very much similar to each other in looks and some specs.

Smartphone comparison reviews focus on the speed tests each smartphone can manage when carrying out certain tasks. Benchmarks, such as the Geekbench, have been used to compare phones for as long as smartphones became mainstream. However, a new test has been launched and it doesn’t rely on the technical parts of the device. Rather than running benchmarks for the devices, users on YouTube and other video channels have devised ways of comparing the speed of devices by how fast they launch an app for the first time, and how fast the same app can be launched from memory. And, for the first time, an Android device has beaten an iPhone.

In the tests, the same app was launched on both devices at the same time and the time taken to fully launch it was measured. In this test, the iPhone 7 Plus was quicker than the OnePlus 5 by a small margin. The second test entailed opening the same app from the memory of the phone. In this regard, the OnePlus 5 took the title of being the faster device of the two in what becomes the first time an iPhone was ever beaten by an Android phone.

It should be known that the iPhone 7 Plus has 3GB of RAM while the OnePlus 5 has 8GB. It is thus only reasonable that this large RAM would make it easier to recall data than the smaller one found in the iPhone. However, other devices with better specs on paper have failed to beat the iPhone as seen from flagship devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Google Pixel series of phones.

The OnePlus 5 looks very much like the iPhone 7 Plus from the camera position, the flash, the position of the logo and dimensions. Maybe, OnePlus has created a better iPhone than Apple.
