OpenAI is rolling out its low-cost ChatGPT Go plan to users in the United States and worldwide. The company first launched the tier in India in August. It later expanded access to 170 more countries before Friday’s wider release. OpenAI says the response has been strong, with users turning to Go for writing, learning, image creation, and everyday problem-solving.
The Go plan costs $8 per month. It offers more messages, file uploads, and image generation than the free version of ChatGPT. At the same time, it stays cheaper than the $20-per-month Plus plan. As a result, Go now sits neatly between the two existing options.
According to OpenAI, this tier targets users who want broader access to its fast version of the latest model, GPT-5.2 Instant. Free users can currently send 10 messages with GPT-5.2 every five hours. After that, chats move to a mini version of the model. Plus subscribers, in comparison, receive 160 messages with GPT-5.2 every three hours.
OpenAI says Go users will get “10x” the messages, files, and images of the free tier. Based on that, Go is expected to allow around 100 GPT-5.2 messages per usage window. However, the company has not shared the exact time limits.
Details on daily file uploads and image generation also remain unclear. OpenAI does not list exact numbers for any plan. The pricing page shows “limited” access for free users, while Plus users see a check mark instead of a figure.
Memory and context length will also improve for Go subscribers. Even so, OpenAI has not confirmed precise limits. Today, free users get a 16K context window for non-reasoning tasks. Plus users receive 32K. Both tiers support a 196K window for reasoning requests.
Another change is on the way. OpenAI says ads will “soon” appear in the Go plan in the United States. Meanwhile, Plus and higher-priced subscriptions will continue to remain ad-free.
