OpenAI has launched a specialized tool aimed squarely at the finance industry. It is called ChatGPT for Financial Services and debuted on September 10. The product is a tailored version of the ChatGPT Work experience. Notably, it combines built-in financial data with GPT-6 Astra reasoning.
The tool targets three core outputs for financial teams. These include research, financial models, and customized client materials. Specifically, OpenAI initially focused on investment banking and equity research. This choice reflects where early partners saw the biggest needs.
Two major financial firms shaped the product directly. OpenAI built it through design partnerships with Morgan Stanley and Evercore. Consequently, the collaboration pinpointed the biggest pain points for teams. Reliable data access and quality document creation topped that list.
Data sits at the heart of the entire offering. The product includes premium datasets from providers like Daloopa and PitchBook. It also incorporates LSEG News for broader market coverage. Crucially, OpenAI hosts this data to enable granular citations.
Those citations address a critical trust issue in finance. Bankers can trace specific figures back to their original sources. Therefore, they can check the evidence as analysis develops. This transparency matters enormously for high-stakes financial decisions.
The tool also connects to firms’ existing subscriptions smoothly. OpenAI is working with S&P Capital IQ, MSCI, and Moody’s. These integrations recognize users through their ChatGPT sign-in directly. As a result, teams access data they are already entitled to.
GPT-6 Astra powers the actual analytical work throughout. The model handles information retrieval, financial reasoning, and artifact generation. On one benchmark testing Treasury data, it scored 69.9%. That notably beat GPT-5.6 Sol’s score of 60.2%.
Security and governance received significant attention given the industry. Business data is not used to train models by default. Additionally, firms can create multiple workspaces to enforce information barriers. Compliance teams can also export logs for their audit workflows.
The launch reflects OpenAI’s deepening push into enterprise markets. It follows the recent GPT-6 Astra release for business. For now, the product remains available to eligible financial institutions only. Interested firms must contact OpenAI directly to gain access.
