OpenAI has introduced Advanced Voice Mode to ChatGPT’s desktop applications for macOS apps, enabling users to interact with the AI through natural, spoken commands. This feature, previously available only on mobile for Plus and Teams users, allows for voice instructions and responses in a human-like tone. To access Advanced Voice on a desktop, users need to download the latest version of the ChatGPT app.
What Is Advanced Voice Mode?
Advanced Voice Mode enhances voice interactions by conveying emotions, modulating tone, and emphasizing specific words for a more lifelike experience. OpenAI has introduced five new voices for ChatGPT: Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale, joining the existing voices Breeze, Juniper, Cove, and Ember. These nature-inspired options aim to create engaging and natural dialogues, making AI conversations feel more personal.
How to Use Advanced Voice Mode?
Users can enable the voice feature within the ChatGPT app to use Advanced Voice Mode on the desktop. Upon activation, users can engage with ChatGPT using voice input, while the AI provides verbal responses. The feature introduces visual enhancements, swapping out static black dots for a lively blue sphere that reacts in real-time during voice interactions, thereby enriching the visual engagement of conversations.
This feature is included in a wider range of personalization choices. Individuals can tailor ChatGPT’s replies through “Custom Instructions,” allowing them to establish preferences that resonate with their unique style or requirements. Tahe Memory feature also enables ChatGPT to retain user interactions throughout various sessions, resulting in responses that increasingly feel personalized as time progresses.
The latest enhancements in voice recognition technology have significantly boosted its capacity to understand a variety of accents, leading to fewer miscommunications and more prompt, fluid replies. Furthermore, the anticipated video and screen-sharing functionalities from OpenAI, enabling ChatGPT to handle visual and audio input simultaneously, have not yet been implemented.
Another new feature in this update is the ability to search through your conversations using keywords and phrases by clicking the search bar.
