OpenAI Rolls Out Operator to Global Markets, Excluding the EU
OpenAI has announced the expansion of its AI-powered agent, Operator, to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the U.K., and several other countries. Initially launched in the U.S. in January, Operator is designed to perform various online tasks on behalf of users, such as booking tickets, making reservations, and completing online forms.
OpenAI stated that Operator would be included in all areas where ChatGPT is functioning, with the exception of the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland. Currently, only those who subscribe to the ChatGPT Pro subscription for $200 per month can access the tool via a separate webpage. OpenAI intends to make Operator available across all of their ChatGPT access points in the coming months.
GPT-4o’s Computer-Using Agent (CUA) model operates Operator by performing vision capabilities using reinforcement learning techniques. The tool’s capacity to interact with graphical user interfaces (GUIs) is dependent on its ability to recognise screen objects when clicking buttons and navigating online pages. Users always have the option to step in and take control during specific occasions, such as login requests, payment processes, and CAPTCHA screens.
The market for AI agents is expanding rapidly as big competitors such as Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit develop comparable automation capabilities. Google’s AI agent waits on a list, and users can use Anthropic’s technology via an API, but Rabbit’s model is confined inside its own device. Operator’s interface acts as an approachable AI communication tool, improving workflow organisation and workplace efficiency.
OpenAI is also collaborating with prominent companies, such as DoorDash, Instacart, OpenTable, Priceline, StubHub, and Uber, to enhance Operator’s capabilities and guarantee that it aligns with real-world business and consumer requirements. OpenAI’s objective is to improve the tool’s functionality and broaden its accessibility to a broader range of user segments, such as Plus, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, as the research preview phase of the tool continues.
