Openai To Integrate Soras Video Generation Tool Into Chatgpt

OpenAI has announced plans to integrate its AI-powered video generation tool, Sora, into its widely used chatbot, ChatGPT. This news was shared during a Friday office hours session on Discord, where company leaders revealed their vision for expanding Sora’s accessibility and capabilities.

At present, Sora is exclusively accessible through a standalone web application that was released in December. This application enables users to produce cinematic video segments lasting up to 20 seconds by utilising AI.  However, Rohan Sahai, the product manager for Sora, announced that OpenAI plans to expand the tool’s creative potential and make it more accessible and versatile for users in the future by bringing it to additional platforms.

Sora was initially promoted by OpenAI to video production studios and creatives in the months preceding its December launch.  The company is currently making a more concerted effort to expand the appeal of its AI video creation tool.

Sahai stated that OpenAI is currently in the process of developing a method to integrate Sora into ChatGPT, thereby integrating the two products. However, he declined to provide a specific timeline.  Sahai suggested that the version of Sora that will ultimately be released on ChatGPT may not provide the same level of control as the web application, which allows users to alter and combine footage.

OpenAI may be attempting to entice users to ChatGPT by enabling them to create Sora videos using the chatbot.  In addition, the inclusion of Sora in ChatGPT could serve as an incentive for users to upgrade to ChatGPT’s premium subscription tiers, which may provide higher video generation limits.

Sahai clarified that one of the reasons OpenAI launched Sora as a separate web application was to maintain the simplicity of ChatGPT. However, OpenAI has developed additional methods for users to peruse Sora-generated videos from the community since its inception, thereby expanding Sora’s web experience.

Sahai also stated that OpenAI “would love to build” a standalone mobile app for Sora, and he also mentioned that the Sora team is actively seeking mobile engineers. OpenAI intends to extend Sora’s image generation capabilities.

Sahai confirmed that OpenAI is currently developing an AI image generator that is powered by Sora. Although ChatGPT currently supports image generation, which is powered by OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 model, a Sora-powered image generator has the potential to enable users to create more photorealistic images.

Sahai added that OpenAI is also working on a new version of Sora Turbo, the model that currently powers the Sora web app, promising even more powerful and diverse tools for users in the near future.
