The Pakistan Airport Authority is planning to construct what could become Islamabad’s tallest building in the Blue Area commercial district.
According to documents submitted to the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency, the authority intends to develop a multi-storey high-rise office and aviation complex on its 9,000-square-yard plot in Blue Area.
The proposed Aviation Complex is envisioned as Islamabad’s tallest building and will include offices of the Pakistan Airport Authority, airline headquarters, conference and business facilities, banks, recreational and fitness centers, an aviation museum, art gallery, daycare facility, food courts, and hotel accommodations.
PEPA has issued a public notice inviting comments and feedback from citizens and stakeholders regarding the project. A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled to be held on May 18 at Crown Hotel Islamabad.
Islamabad currently has several prominent high-rise buildings, including The Centaurus, which stands at around 335 feet with 29 floors.
Meanwhile, the under-construction Garden Residential Apartment Project in F-10 Markaz is expected to become one of the city’s tallest structures at approximately 470 feet with 42 storeys.
Officials from the Capital Development Authority confirmed that the building plan for the proposed aviation complex has already been approved.
However, a CDA official said it is still too early to confirm whether the structure will officially become the tallest building in Islamabad once completed.
