Pakistan is expected to experience worsening internet disruptions this week, coinciding with ongoing electricity outages in various parts of the country.
According to sources, internet services are likely to be significantly affected during evening hours, particularly at times when power outages occur. The disruptions are being linked to scheduled submarine cable maintenance by multiple internet service providers, which is expected to continue until April 20, 2026.
Users across the country have already reported noticeable slowdowns and connectivity issues since the previous evening, raising concerns among businesses, students, and remote workers.
Officials confirmed that repair work on a marine cable is currently underway. A spokesperson for Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited stated that the repair process will continue through April 20.
The spokesperson added that users may continue to face reduced internet speeds, particularly during peak evening hours, while the maintenance work is in progress. The issue is being handled by an international consortium responsible for maintaining and repairing submarine internet cables.
Authorities have advised users to expect intermittent slowdowns until the repair work is completed.
