Pakistan mobile phone imports hit $1.889 billion during the fiscal year 2025-26. This figure represents a massive 26.55% growth. Previously, the country imported mobile phones worth $1.492 billion during the same period last year.
Furthermore, the rupee value of these imports grew significantly. The total value reached Rs. 530.492 billion in FY 2025-26. Consequently, this reflects a 27.24% increase compared to Rs. 416.937 billion in the previous year.
Overall, total telecom imports into Pakistan hit $2.690 billion during FY 2025-26. Therefore, the sector experienced a 27.97% growth compared to $2.102 billion during FY 2024-25.
Pakistan Mobile Phone Imports: Monthly & Yearly Trends
Meanwhile, recent monthly data also shows an upward trajectory. Pakistan imported $141.556 million worth of mobile phones in June 2026. This marks an 11.88% month-on-month growth compared to $126.527 million in May 2026. Additionally, year-on-year imports for June witnessed a 2.62% growth when compared to $137.941 million in June 2025.
Conversely, the official data highlights a decline during the previous fiscal cycle. Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $1.494 billion in FY 2024-25. This showed a 21.31% fall compared to $1.898 billion during FY 2023-24. Similarly, the rupee value stood at Rs. 417.351 billion in FY 2024-25, representing a 22.09% decline from Rs. 535.690 billion in FY 2023-24.

Local Assembly Dominates the Market
Despite the rising import bill, local manufacturing completely outpaces commercial imports. Local assembly plants manufactured 11.17 million mobile handsets during the first five months of 2026. In contrast, commercial importers brought in only 1.91 million devices during the same timeframe.
Moreover, these 11.17 million locally assembled handsets include 4.92 million smartphones. The remaining 6.25 million units are 2G phones.
This trend continues the momentum from last year. Local plants assembled 30.21 million mobile handsets during the entire 2025 calendar year. Meanwhile, commercial imports stood at just 2.37 million units during that year.

5G Adoption & Network Composition
Furthermore, local facilities are actively producing next-generation devices. Pakistan assembled 101,005 5G-enabled mobile handsets during May 2026 alone. Previously, the country assembled 553,079 5G units during 2025.
Finally, official Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) data reveals the current landscape of the local network. Smartphones currently account for 72.3% of all mobile devices on the Pakistani network. Consequently, 2G devices make up the remaining 27.7%.
