Pakistan’s National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT) issued a strict cybersecurity alert on April 23. The warning arrives ahead of the first anniversary of Marqa-e-Haq (the 2025 India War). Consequently, officials fear this anniversary could trigger coordinated cyber attacks against the nation. Therefore, NCERT is placing critical national infrastructure and government ministries on high alert.
Government departments currently face an increased risk of network disruption. To counter this, NCERT strongly urges all ministries to strengthen their digital defenses immediately. Furthermore, IT teams must apply the latest security patches to their operating systems, firewalls, and anti-malware tools. Departments must also perform detailed security audits. Meanwhile, officials need to monitor systems closely for any unusual or unauthorized activity.
The new advisory mandates stronger access controls across the board. Specifically, employees must use complex, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to prevent unauthorized access. Additionally, NCERT warns against a rising threat of phishing emails and social engineering attacks. As a result, they highly recommend mandatory awareness training for all staff members to identify suspicious activities. Finally, ministries must routinely back up critical data and secure their storage systems.
Surviving a potential breach requires seamless teamwork. Therefore, National CERT demands continuous coordination from all government agencies. Departments must immediately report any discovered vulnerabilities or security irregularities. Ultimately, these proactive steps will help minimize the impact of any cyber attacks or targeted network breaches.
