ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) is set to deliberate on the standardization of tuition fees for private medical and dental colleges in its upcoming Council meeting. This decision comes in response to growing public concerns regarding the affordability and accessibility of medical and dental education in Pakistan.

To address these concerns, the PMDC is implementing a structured fee schedule to ensure transparency and fairness in the education sector. The council aims to prevent excessive tuition fees while maintaining high educational standards in private institutions across the country. This initiative is part of the council’s commitment to ensuring quality medical and dental education remains accessible to aspiring students.

In a statement, the PMDC announced that an emergency Council meeting has been called. This meeting will include discussions with stakeholders, such as representatives from private medical and dental colleges, education experts, and government officials, to finalize a fair and standardized fee policy. The PM&DC remains dedicated to promoting equitable access to medical education while upholding academic excellence.

Earlier, in accordance with the directions of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination, all private medical and dental institutions were instructed not to collect fees for the 2024-2025 session until the final decision of the committee constituted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, to review and revise the tuition fees of private medical and dental colleges. All colleges have been directed to comply with these regulations and take the necessary steps accordingly.
