Babar Azam struck his ninth century as a T20 captain against Islamabad United in the PSL 11 qualifier, creating history at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.
With this landmark knock, Peshawar Zalmi captain surpassed former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis, who previously held the record with eight T20 centuries as captain.
The right-handed batter now leads the global captaincy list ahead of Australian cricketer Michael Klinger with seven, followed by Virat Kohli and James Vince with five each.
Matching the all-time PSL season record
The Lahore born cricketer has now scored 588 runs in just ten innings during PSL 2026, equalling the all-time single-season record of the Fakhar Zaman from 2022 season.
The left-handed opening batter required 13 innings to reach that landmark in 2022, while Babar Azam achieved the same total in ten innings this season.
A record fourth 500-run PSL season
With outstanding performance also confirmed the fourth PSL campaign for Babar Azam in which he has surpassed the 500-run mark, a record in league history.
The right-handed batter has achieved 500-plus PSL runs in 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2026, extending his own record for the most such campaigns in the competition.
Wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan holds second place on that list with three 500-run PSL seasons, recorded across 2021, 2022, and 2023 respectively.
Fakhar Zaman and Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis each have one 500-run PSL campaign, in 2022 and 2026 respectively, behind Babar Azam in this category.
